So, the kid who said, "There is no way I'm goin' to prom!"... went to Junior Prom. I'm late posting the photos, but I realized that I may need proof (one, that he went; and two, that he wore a tuxedo) someday.
As a mom, the downside of having a son, instead of a daughter, going to prom was somewhat significant:
- No fun dress-shopping
- I didn't get to see the girls,
- Or take pictures of the couples
- I got roped into the extensive planning (have you ever rented out an entire movie theater for a midnight movie? or tried to convince restaurant managers that they really DO want to have 40 teenagers in their restaurant?)
But, there was also an upside:
- I got to force help several cute guys pull together funny ways to ask girls to the prom
- I saw these same boys treat Hutton like one of the guys when he hopped in the car to go with them to ask the girls. Awesome and hilarious.
- I witnessed the funniest look on Madsen's face when his date texted him a picture of her dress, so he could coordinate. The dress was a super-skimpy, shiny, glittery, strapless, animal print. Yikes!
- Then, the look of relief when the aforementioned girl revealed that she was JOKING, that she was actually wearing a classy black dress? Priceless. Hahahahaha!
- I got to see Madsen and his friend in tuxedos (don't they look cute? I mean, hot?). I almost didn't recognize them without their basketball clothes on.
- I saw Brinley helping/fussing-over Madsen, helping him get ready. She's a good big sister and it was a moment when I thought Madsen might have realized it... and that Brinley may have seen that her little bro is a pretty cool guy. (blurry photo warning...sorry)
That brother-sister moment was worth all the running around, phone calling, tuxedo fitting, flower buying, etc.. Those moments are what I live for.
(sigh)
I love prom.
