My mom has a great house. Big kitchen, lots of bedrooms, lots of gathering space and a family of deer that hangs out in the woodsy backyard. My mom has put her stamp on her house. Stylewise, I'd say it's cozy-chic/traditional. It's not really grandma-ish (what is that anyway?), but it does reflect "Grandma", my mom.
I've been bugging my mom to let me redecorate one of the guest/grandkid rooms. I've always thought that it doesn't reflect my mom's style and isn't as welcoming as the rest of the house. My parents are living in South America at the moment, which makes it the perfect time for a makeover...right? (Sorry, Dad).
Since some of my siblings read my blog, and they don't live nearby, I thought I'd post a sneak peek of the changes to The Yellow Room. I am so bummed that I didn't take a "before" photo -- I always forget the "before" photo! But, my siblings (and my mom, of course) are probably the only ones that care about the makeover -- and even then "care" may be too strong a word. So, "before" photos are probably unnecessary since we are all very aware of what The Yellow Room looked like, right family?
Here's a peek at the new (and hopefully improved) No-Longer-Yellow Room:
The room still needs some finishing touches, like hanging the mirror, photos in the frames, window treatments...and a few other little things that I'm working on. But, it's coming along. I may have to wait a little while to bring in some of the details; my nephews are currently staying in the room -- (you can see some of their things in there, including all sorts of creatures in containers on the window sill. i don't think i want to know what they are) -- and I think they may be tired of my constant visits/intrusions.
I hope my mom likes the makeover. I emailed photos to her a few hours ago. I'm not posting this until I know she likes it, so if you're reading this...she does!
And, because I still feel like this post needs a good before-and-after with a "before" photo...

(The navy blue dresser underwent a similar transformation -- thanks, Sister4, for your help!)
So, Mom, thanks for letting me have fun with your house.
And, to the rest of my family...
welcome to Grandma's.
