It has been said that every home has a center, a heart and soul if you will. The other night I looked around my kitchen/family room and felt great satisfaction at what I saw: B and five other teenage girls working on friendship bracelets (they taught me how to make them!); M and three of his friends snacking and making plans for mischief; Hutt and two of his friends running around like lunatics; K and the middle boys (+ one extra) watching the Olympics; and, my friend from across the street, who saw the lights and the activity and came to join the fun. For a moment, I let myself think hey! maybe i'm such a cool mom that all the kids want to come hang out here! Then I watched as all the boys gathered around this:
My big snack jar. The holy grail. Whenever the boys -- or girls -- come over, they head straight for The Jar. The snacks inside vary, but the jar's magnetic pull never does. So, I guess it's not me (sigh). I realize I've got to keep The Jar full. It may take a few extra Costo runs, but, if it keeps the kids coming over, keeps my house full of fun and laughter... Costco, here I come!
